Our friends over at Waterlust recently invited a group of local 7th grade students from Pensacola, Florida, to teach them about the work they are doing as part of the CARTHE research project. CARTHE’s research team is “dedicated to predicting the fate of oil released into our environment to help inform and guide response teams, thereby protecting and minimizing damage to human health, the economy, and the environment.”

Waterlust co-counder Patrick Rynne demonstrated how they are using a 3DR Y6 copter to capture aerial imagery of dye flowing through the water. This research will help scientists monitor and predict what would happen in the event of another oil spill.
