A coordinate system is an imaginary grid laid over the earth such that every location on Earth has a unique identifier. There are many different coordinate systems used for different purposes, however there are 2 types, geographic and projected.

A geographic coordinate system enables every location on Earth to be specified by a set of numbers, letters or symbols. Most people are familiar with WGS84 latitude and longitudes which is a coordinate system derived from GPS. A geographic coordinate system is measured using angles from the center of the Earth (e.g. The Statue of Liberty is at 40.6892° N, 74.0445° W).
Projected Coordinate Systems (like State Plane or UTM) correct the curvature of the Earth and allow the use of feet or meters to represent a location. A projected coordinate system is measured using distances from an origin.
Local coordinates systems are projected and use an origin located on site. Local coordinate systems are produced using traditional survey equipment such as a Total Station. Local coordinate systems can be converted to a more widely used projected coordinate systems if at least one of the coordinates has a known location.

How does this work with Site Scan?
Site Scan Orthomosaics and Digital Elevation Models results are georeferenced in WGS84. *.las Point Clouds outputs are delivered in UTM84 in the appropriate zone where the flight was performed. Other outputs are not georeferenced.
In Site Scan Manager you have the ability to choose what coordinate system is being used whenever you create a project. This enables you to input ground control points (GCP) in virtually any coordinate system. All you have to do is input the correct EPSG code for the coordinate system that you want to use.
To get the code you can visit the following link and input the name of the State that the Coordinate system belongs to.

This will give you a list of systems along with the EPSG code. You can also click on each of them and it will show you on an interactive map on what area of the state that system is used on.

Once you have the EPSG code of the coordinate system you want to use, log into your Site Scan Manager account and in the main page click “Add New Project”. Name the project and type in the EPSG code of the preferred system.

Click “Submit” afterwards and then click on “Add New Job” and fill out the Job name, Job type and Location windows. After filling out the Location window you can click on the “Set” button and it will move the map to that area.

You can then click on “Create Job” which will prompt you the option to upload the images.

After which you can go into the “Job Data” tab, click on “Process Job” and you’ll be able to find it under the “Active Processes” section.
