You can stream live HD video from Solo using your GoPro® Hero 3+ or 4 with any version of GoPro’s firmware. If you update your GoPro to the newly released version 3.00.00, you’ll be able to start and stop recording from the 3DR Solo app, with even more functionality coming soon! As of July 30, 2015, the following GoPro models support version 3.00.00:

  • GoPro® Hero 4 Black and Silver
  • GoPro® Hero 3+ Black

How to Update

You can update your GoPro over WiFi using an iOS or Android device, or download the update to your computer and then copy it to the GoPro’s SD card.

Option 1: Download the Update Using your iOS or Android Device

  1. Make sure you have the GoPro App downloaded onto your iOS or Android device, and that you have an SD Card with plenty of remaining space installed in your GoPro.
  2. Turn on GoPro Wifi by holding the button on the side.
  3. Open the GoPro app.
  4. Connect Your Camera.
  5. When you get to the screen with the live video preview, tap the downloads button at the top of the screen. It’s a circle with an arrow in the middle.
  6. Follow the prompts to download and install the update.
  7. Make sure the GoPro’s WiFi is off before flying! Hold the button on the side.

Option 2: Download the Update Using Your Computer

  1. On your computer, navigate to
  2. Choose your camera model from the list on the left.
  3. Select “Update Your Camera Manually”.
  4. Follow the instructions to register and update your GoPro.
